Warren Bonett, who was raised
in Maldon and Castlemaine, began his artistic career in London with
a one man show opposite the British Museum in 1995, with a collection
of etchings
and collographs entitled Past and Present. A brief return to Australia
in 1996, saw him exhibit in 3 group shows over 6 months. In the intervening
years he worked as a freelance graphic designer and illustrator,
with occasional stints at Central Saint Martins College teaching
printmaking to first year
and summer school graphics students. Recently he has seen success
with the design of several notable coffee table books including Enduring
Passion: A Brand History of Mercedes-Benz; Design City Melbourne;
Design City Milan;
and The Design Mix (all published by John Wiley & Sons). Other
design work of note includes brand design for companies as diverse
as NatWest, Ford, Marks & Spencer, Hattie Smart, and Volnox. Ten
years later, and with the possibility of a joint show with Geoffrey, he
has been lured back to the press.
Using innovative photogravure processes learnt at the Baldessin Press,
under Silvi
Glattauer, Warren
merges
his remarkable
digital skills with his traditional printmaking ones to create images
that, whilst contemporary, seem to be from an earlier time. He assures
us it
won’t be another 10 years before his next show, “I have rediscovered
my addiction to pulling prints.”
