Norma
Bailey Ramsey
Norma Bailey Ramsey
was born in Melbourne in 1948. During the 1970s Norma focused
her attention on oil painting and began formal tutoring with
Pat Graham in the Tonalist Tradition and later studied under
A. Colhoun. From this initial grounding she then began experimenting
in abstraction. Her first exhibit was in Castlemaine in 1985
and she has had strong regional representation ever since in
group and with solo exhibitions. She discovered a preference
for acrylic over oils in the late 1990s and with this choice
broke from the strict Tonalist tradition she had been trained
in. She is best known for her portraiture and figurative works.
