Janet
Goodchild Cuffley
Janet Goodchild-Cuffley
was born in Melbourne. She undertook her initial art training
at Swinburne and later achieved an M.A. in Visual Arts at La
Trobe University Bendigo.
Concerned primarily with cultural and historical influences on
female identity, she creates paintings which are strongly narrative
in content.
Her current work draws on the Western tradition and centres on
the Homeric Hymn to Demeter. It explores the legend of Demeter
and Persephone, which she has set in the local environment of
Central Victoria.
Goodchild-Cuffley has shown in solo and group exhibitions in
Melbourne, Geelong and regional Victoria since the early 1980s,
and at Australia House London in 2002.
She is represented in private collections in Germany, the UK,
USA, New Zealand and Australia, and is in public collection at
Bendigo, Australia (Golden Dragon Museum).
