Drummond
Ian Drummond established
Greenhill Pottery in 1980 to produce fine stoneware with both
aesthetic and practical qualities. His glazing and decorative
methods are based on Chinese tradition. However, Ian has broadened
from this starting point in a most distinctive way - drawing
upon experience gained whilst acquiring a degree in architecture,
a diploma of art and training in the practice of Sumie painting.
He uses oxidising and reducing atmospheres in the firing cycle
where his pottery is fired in a gas fuelled, brick kiln to Cone
10 temperature (1305 degrees Celsius). Oxides of chrome, cobalt,
copper and iron are used in the feldspathic glazes which gives
the works their distinctive colours and gorgeous gloss.
