Geoffrey Stocks

Geoff Stocks was born in Yorkshire 1930. He graduated from Leeds University College of Art in 1950 majoring in Painting and Printmaking. After a brief period working with the St Ives Group of Painters headed by Ben Nicholson and his wife Barbara Hepworth, Stocks spent some months in London prior to emigrating to Australia in 1956. After several years working in advertising he exhibited in a number of one man shows, including the highly significant show, Fifth Continent in response to friend and composer Peter Sculthorpe's composition of the same name. These were produced in co-operation with Sculthorpe who was so pleased with the result he presented Stocks with the original tape recordings of Fifth Continent.
