Geoffrey
Stocks
Geoff Stocks was born in
Yorkshire 1930. He graduated from Leeds University College of
Art in 1950
majoring in Painting and Printmaking. After a brief period working
with the St Ives Group of Painters headed by Ben Nicholson and
his wife Barbara Hepworth, Stocks spent some months in London
prior to emigrating to Australia in 1956. After several years
working in advertising he exhibited in a number of one man shows,
including the highly significant show, Fifth Continent in
response to friend and composer Peter Sculthorpe's composition
of the
same name. These were produced in co-operation with Sculthorpe
who was so pleased with the result he presented Stocks with the
original tape recordings of Fifth Continent.
He is represented in State,
Municipal, University, Corporate and significant private collections
in Australia, Europe and America. He has won over 60 awards
including gold, silver and bronze medals in open art competitions. |
