Craig
Gough was born in Perth in 1938.After distinguishing himself
in that art scene,(including art critic for the Sunday Times
newspaper),he moved to Melbourne in 1974 to take a position which
ultimately became acting associate professor fine-art and head
of painting at Monash University completing an M.A fine art and
leaving teaching to paint full time in1994.He has held over 40
solo exhibitions and taken part in a plethera of group exhibitions;many
by invitation only( nationally and internationally.)He has been
awarded many major awards including the McCaughey Prize at the
National Gallery of Victoria 1983 and the Visual Art's Board
studio at ' il Paretaio',Tuscany, Italy.Numerous commissions,
public and private, include a painted tram for Melbourne Tramways
Board,a large painting of Melbourne for the N.G.V. Hugh Williamson
Award as well as a portrait of the Bishop of Sandhurst, Noel
Daly , for the Bendigo cathedral.His paintings drawings and prints
are in major galleries and corporate and private collections
and hospitals in Australia and Internationally including Australian
Embassy Saudi Arabia;National Gallery of Victoria;many regional
galleries throughout Australia;Hong Kong Bank ;Price Waterhouhouse;Besen-Suzannes;Ryder-Hunt
and Melbourne Clinic.He had a major exhibition, 'Survey 1980-1990'
at the Castlemaine Art Gallery which toured regional galleries
in 1995-1996.An exhibition of recent large paintings was exhibited
at the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery 2007-2008.
